What is the difference between Type A and Type B MTP MPO patch cord?

MPO Type A and Type B differ in fiber polarity, or how the fibers are aligned from one end of the cable to the other.

• Type A is a "straight-through" cable where fiber position 1 connects to fiber position 1, and so on, but uses key-up and key-down connectors to connect correctly.
• Type B is a "reversed" or "rollover" cable where fiber position 1 connects to fiber position 12, fiber 2 to 11, etc., using key-up connectors on both ends. Type B is preferred for connecting transceivers that transmit and receive on specific, reversed channels, like 40G QSFP+ modules.

Key Position: Key-up on one end and key-down on the other.

Fiber Alignment: Fiber position 1 at one end aligns with fiber position 1 at the other end.

Application: Used when you need a direct, straight connection, or to extend a Type B channel that results in an even number of segments.

Key Position: Key-up on both ends.

Fiber Alignment: Fiber position 1 connects to position 12, position 2 to 11, and so on, reversing the fiber order.

Application: This type is essential for directly connecting transceiver ports that require the transmitted signal to be received by the opposite port. This is the standard configuration for high-speed data applications, such as 40G and 100G QSFP+ modules.
