MPO Type A and Type B differ in fiber polarity, or how the fibers are aligned from one end of the cable to the other.
Key Position: Key-up on one end and key-down on the other.
Fiber Alignment: Fiber position 1 at one end aligns with fiber position 1 at the other end.
Application: Used when you need a direct, straight connection, or to extend a Type B channel that results in an even number of segments.
Key Position: Key-up on both ends.
Fiber Alignment: Fiber position 1 connects to position 12, position 2 to 11, and so on, reversing the fiber order.
Application: This type is essential for directly connecting transceiver ports that require the transmitted signal to be received by the opposite port. This is the standard configuration for high-speed data applications, such as 40G and 100G QSFP+ modules.
Type A is straight-through, while Type B is reversed.
Type A has a key-up/key-down configuration, while Type B has key-up/key-up.
Type B is the standard for direct transceiver-to-transceiver connections that require polarity reversal for Tx/Rx.
